Perhaps the most popular perennial for the shade garden. They are indispensable in the garden and also look very nice in large containers. Hosta's are very easy to grow. They prefer shade or partial shade and soil that is moist in summer. Very fragrant flowers in summer. Great in combination with flower bulbs. Once established they are the perfect garden plant, being very hardy and disease resistant. Hosta will go completely dormant in the fall, and you can remove the dying foliage any time before mid spring. Hosta’s are easily divided in either spring or fall, but plants may be left alone for many years.
1. Select an area with shade or semi-shade
2. Dig a hole 1 inch (2,5 cm) deep
3. Place the perennial in the hole, with pointed side up
4. Space perennials 40 inches (100 cm) apart
5. Cover with soil and water thoroughly
Plant in groups of 2 or more, in well-drained soil. Perennial will benefit from a handful of compost added to the planting holes. Columbine flowers make excellent cut flowers to add to indoor flower arrangements. Until planting it's best to store product between 35 F and 60 F degrees.
