Hosta – Plantain Lily: Perhaps the most popular perennial for the shade garden. They are indispensable in the garden and also look very nice in large containers. Hostas are very easy to grow. They prefer shade or partial shade and soil that is moist in summer. Very fragrant flowers in summer. Great in combination with flower bulbs. Once established they are the perfect garden plant, being very hardy and disease resistant. Hosta will go completely dormant in the fall, and you can remove the dying foliage any time before mid spring. Hosta’s are easily divided in either spring or fall, but plants may be left alone for many years.
