Ideal for GARDEN and CONTAINER PLANTING
The large, daisy-like flowers of the modern varieties of Anemone blanda (‘blanda’ meaning ‘beautiful’) have a diameter of 1 – 2 inches (4-5 cm.). They have yellow flower centers and numerous stamens. Anemones are extremely popular due to their early, massive flowering and their wide availability. Another big advantage is that the little rhizomes naturalize easily in climatic zone 4-9. They form a lovely, colorful carpet, especially under woody trees and shrubs which are still bare during the time of the anemones’ flowering period. Anemones are actually a must for spots among perennials.
This small plant comes from the mountains of Greece and Asia Minor. Its original color is blue, it is propagated from seed, and its tuber size starts at 5 cm. Selections have produced cultivars in other colors as well, but these have to be propagated vegetatively by cutting or breaking the tubers.
